I assume it's just because the devs knew that all that was needed to be shown in that ending was Lauren's legs, so they didn't have to craft a whole new model and instead reused Kate's model. Plus, wouldn't they have renamed the "laurendead" model if Lauren didn't actually die? The reason for using Kate's model for the Steam ending scene instead of making a whole new model for Lauren. Well, the ending where Lauren fell from the radio tower didn't actually have a character model for her in view, so I doubt that the "laurendead" model would've been used for that. Her becoming a proxy doesn't make much sense either, since she was able to quickly shrug off the hallucinations and whispers from Slenderman throughout the game, while surviving him and his proxies simultaneously. I assume it would be something about Lauren trying to save Kate and herself from Slenderman's grasp.

If Blue Isle ever make a sequel, we will see what truly happens afterwards. Why would a dev team who are so good at their jobs, be too lazy to make a different model for the literal main character? Lauren is the one who is dragging the body, instead of being dragged. All this carry on my disbelief on Lauren's "death" in the ending. Lauren as seen from the loading screen, looks way different than Kate. This game has incredible amount of details, in gameplay, graphics but especially in story. "lauren_dead" might be a file name that was used for the earlier versions of the game, which Lauren fell from a freaking radio tower.
